DAVAO CITY – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation in Davao region (PhilHealth-11) has issued 237 final demand letters to delinquent employers this year, aiming to recover PHP25.4 million in unpaid premiums.
Mark Jim Manabat, officer-in-charge of PhilHealth-11 field operations division collection section, disclosed during a press briefing Wednesday that around 4,000 registered employers in the region were delinquent in 2024.
“We have not filed cases yet because we extend patience and consideration, hoping they can settle their delinquencies within the year,” said Manabat, a lawyer. “If they fail to pay despite notices, we will be compelled to take legal action.”
He noted that more than 100 employers have already settled their obligations. Manabat emphasized PhilHealth’s focus on leniency to avoid legal confrontations, which can harm a company’s reputation.
PhilHealth-11 has achieved an 87 percent collection rate as of Oct. 31, collecting PHP4.94 billion of its PHP5.67 billion target. The agency aims for full billing of delinquent employers next year and plans to engage at least 10 percent of the region’s 21,940 active employers.
Manabat assured members that their benefits remain unaffected, as PhilHealth pursues employers who fail to remit premiums.
The region also reported a 90.5 percent compliance rate with the “No Balance Billing Policy” in government hospitals and a 95.66 percent registration rate as of Nov. 22. Since January, PhilHealth-11 has disbursed PHP6.9 billion for 607,199 valid claims.
PhilHealth-11 accredits 490 health facilities, 2,318 healthcare professionals, 1,280 KonSulTa (Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama) facilities, and 293 KonSulTa physicians. (PNA)
