CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)-10 conducted the National Reintegration Network Fair on May 19 at the City Tourism Hall to provide services and opportunities for returning and repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.
The activity, themed “Bayanihan para sa Balikbayang Manggagawa,” gathered government agencies, employers, and private institutions to deliver employment assistance, livelihood support, and government services in one venue.
The reintegration fair also supports the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to strengthen reintegration programs and government services for OFWs through a whole-of-government approach.
DMW-10 Officer-in-Charge and Regional Director Emmanuel G. Toledo said the fair focused on providing economic opportunities for migrant workers who lost their jobs abroad or plan to remain in the country.
“For employment opportunities, we have both local and overseas job openings,” Toledo said. “In total, we have 37 participating recruitment agencies and employers.”
The hiring activity offered more than 1,000 local and overseas vacancies.
The fair also featured the “Buy Local by OFWs” product display, which showcased products and businesses managed by former OFWs.
Toledo also introduced the Talakayan Sa Pinas Ikaw ay Ma’am and Sir (SPIMS) program in coordination with the Department of Education for OFWs with teaching backgrounds. The program assists former OFWs who passed licensure examinations in securing teaching positions in public schools.
The fair included the recognition of migrant entrepreneurs and the distribution of livelihood and financial assistance under various government programs.
The DMW assisted 20 beneficiaries under the Enhanced Livelihood Program for OFW Reintegration (ELPOR), while nine displaced workers received aid through the Agap Kabayan program. Additional livelihood support was distributed in partnership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Department of Labor and Employment through the TUPAD program.
A one-stop shop area with 45 national government agencies and private institutions provided services such as medical checkups, mental health consultations, and eye examinations.
The activity also included a post-repatriation orientation seminar for 244 recently recorded repatriated OFWs in the region.
Toledo said the initiative supports Section 17 of Republic Act 11641, which mandates the DMW to implement reintegration programs for OFWs.
“The bayanihan is our whole-of-government and whole-of-region approach,” Toledo said.
He also called on government agencies, communities and the private sector to support returning OFWs and their reintegration into local communities and the workforce. (RMND/PIA-10)
