DAVAO CITY – Former senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday called on the country’s leaders to take immediate steps to de-escalate the ongoing political feud, urging unity for the sake of the nation.
Speaking as the guest of honor during the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc. (AmCham Philippines) thanksgiving and election of the Board of Governors in Davao City, Lacson also encouraged Filipinos to contribute to easing tensions.
“Let’s not be entertained by this turmoil, this political noise. Let’s find a way to intercede in our small way to de-escalate the already very tense situation,” he said.
He expressed disbelief at the current political conflicts, noting that such issues would have been unthinkable just two years ago.
Lacson shared that he discussed the situation with AmCham Philippines members, who voiced concerns about its impact on investor confidence.
“I asked the executive director. He said that if I were a potential investor in this country and witnessing all this ruckus, the conflict, the exchange of words, I might have second thoughts about investing,” he said.
Lacson appealed to Senate President Chiz Escudero and other leaders to mediate and seek a compromise.
“I hope the other leaders of the country, specifically Senate President Chiz Escudero, find a way for the two leaders to talk. Ceasefire muna, tama na muna (Ceasefire for the moment, let’s stop this). This is hard for our country,” he said.
Despite the tensions, Lacson assured that the country remains secure and resilient.
“We have undergone several challenges in the past and were able to pull through. All conflicts, challenges, and issues can be resolved,” he said. (PNA)
