CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) partially reopened a critical highway linking Bukidnon province to the Davao Region on Wednesday after repairs from a deadly October landslide.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon personally supervised the soft opening of the road in Sitio Kipolot, Quezon, Bukidnon, which is now 90% complete at an initial cost of PHP48.5 million.
“The funding for asphalting is PHP20 million from the QRFF (Quick Response Fund); this will not just be a rerouting but a permanent alignment,” Dizon told reporters.
The road section collapsed during a thunderstorm in October 2025, killing two people. The new alignment was designed with Japanese consultants and includes a proper drainage system.
Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri said the closure cost the region about PHP40 million daily in lost economic activity due to rerouting challenges for commuters and businesses. (PNA)
