CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City — The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army on Tuesday, Oct. 6, boosted its community-based security force as 110 newly trained Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) active auxiliaries completed Basic Military Training at the 4th Division Training School in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
The newly trained Cafgus will serve as force multipliers, augmenting regular army units in securing vital installations, gathering local information, and supporting law enforcement agencies, within the 4ID’s area of responsibility spanning Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions.
During the BMT, said Cafgus developed their fundamental military knowledge, skills, and discipline, while enhancing their ability to contribute to community security through their familiarity with the local terrain and communities.
Maj. Gen. Marion T. Angcao, commander of the 4ID, who served as keynote speaker during the closing ceremony, recognized the Cafgus as important community-based frontliners.
“Isip mga frontliners, kamo usa sa pinakaimportante nga kusog sa atong sandatahan. Tungod sa inyong eksperyensya, kahibalo sa lugar, ug kaisog, dako kaayo ang inyong kontribusyon sa pagpanalipod sa atong mga komunidad. (As frontliners, you are one of the most important forces of our Armed Forces. Because of your experience, knowledge of the area, and courage, you make a significant contribution to protecting our communities.),” Angcao said.
He described the Cafgu active auxiliaries as the army’s “lead scouts” who are often among the first to recognize developments in their communities and help guide regular forces toward the appropriate response.
“Kamo ang amoang lead scouts—ang unang makakita, unang makaila sa kahimtang, ug unang motultol sa atong mga pwersa ngadto sa husto ug luwas nga direksiyon. Busa dako kaayo ang among pasalamat sa mga CAA. (You are our lead scouts—the first to see, the first to recognize the situation, and the first to guide our forces toward the right and safe direction. That is why we are deeply grateful to our CAAs.),” he explained.
