COTABATO CITY – Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua on Thursday signed a Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) bill into law that reconstituted the parliamentary districts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Posted in the Bangsamoro Official Gazette, Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 77 was signed 44 days before the first-ever parliamentary elections on Oct. 13.
The law, entitled “An Act Reconstituting the Parliamentary Districts in the BARMM,” amends BAA No. 58 to redistribute the seven parliamentary district seats originally allotted to Sulu. The change follows a Supreme Court ruling that excluded the province from the BARMM.
With the new law, the parliamentary seats are now allocated as follows:
–Nine for Lanao del Sur
–Five for Maguindanao del Norte
–Five for Maguindanao del Sur
–Four for Basilan
–Four for Tawi-Tawi
–Three for Cotabato City
–Two for the Special Geographic Area
Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Local Government Chairman Naguib Sinarimbo, who authored the bill, said the bill’s passage was one of the primary commitments of the extended transition parliament.
“We thank the Chief Minister for seeing through that the principal mandate of the national law that reset the elections in BARMM from May to October 2025 is finally accomplished,” Sinarimbo said.
“This also paves the way for the holding of the October 2025 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections and removes all doubts about the holding of the first BARMM Parliamentary elections,” he added. (PNA)
