MindanaoToday.com | NOTORIOUS ‘BASAG-KOTSE’ MEMBER NABBED IN CAGAYAN DE ORO
CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City – Personnel of Police Station 3, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, successfully apprehended the suspect involved in a ‘Basag Kotse’ that occurred in CM Recto Highway, Kolambog, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City on May 12, 2024.
According to investigations, the victim, who is the owner of the vehicle, caught two suspects in the act of smashing the right-side window of his car by using an ice pick which gained them access and stole cash amounting to PhP16,000.00 from the dashboard.
When the victim confronted the suspects, the 53-year-old suspect tried to stab him twice in the chest but fortunately, he managed to evade it by quickly moving aside. The victim sought assistance from nearby individuals, causing the suspects to panic. The unidentified suspect with a gun managed to escape on a Yamaha NMAX motorcycle, while the 53-year-old suspect attempted to flee on foot.
With the help of concerned citizens, the victim pursued the 53-year-old suspect. While restraining him, the suspect aggressively confronted and attempted to attack the pursuing individuals with an ice pick. In response, defensive measures were employed, resulting in the suspect sustaining injuries because of his own actions and the necessary force used to restrain him.
A combined team from Police Stations 3, 4, 5, and 10 conducted a hot pursuit and follow-up operation to apprehend the fleeing suspect. The arrested suspect is now under the custody of Police Station 3 and appropriate cases, including Theft, Attempted Homicide, and Grave Threats, will be prepared for filing against him.
PBGEN RICARDO G LAYUG JR, Regional Director, PRO10, commends the swift action and collaboration of the involved personnel and citizens during the operation.
“I would like to remind the public to remain vigilant at all times and always ensure the protection of your property and personal safety. Let us not give these criminals any opportunity to commit crimes. Please report any suspicious individuals to our police immediately. Furthermore, I commend the community and PS3 Agora for their swift actions that led to the arrest of the suspect,” he said.
