CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Responding to two separate shootings that were reported here Wednesday, Feb. 28, Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has ordered the city police chief to personally take the lead in going after the suspects as he assured that those acts of violence that occurred minutes apart from each other are unrelated.

Uy said Col. Salvador Radam, Cagayan de Oro Police Office (Cocpo) director, has already briefed him on the shooting incidents in Barangays Bulua and Iponan, this city.

“The police must find ways to apprehend the suspects,” Uy said in a statement.

According to a police report, one Leonard Lake, 38, a ginger supplier, of Kiburiao, Quezon town, Bukidnon, was gunned to death in Zone 2, Bulua.

In an interview, Maj. Jerson Estanilla, Bulua police station commander, said Lake’s shooting may have stemmed from a business transaction gone wrong.

Estanilla added they already have identified the suspect but have yet to divulge it to the public as they are still establishing a case build-up that will lead to possible filing of murder against the perpetrator.

The second incident in Zone 1B, Barangay Iponan, this city, wounded couple Arnel Intes and Shenne Baclayo, both 28 years old, and residents of Barangay Igpit, Opol town, Misamis Oriental. The gunman was not yet identified by authorities.

Uy said Cocpo must not take the shooting incidents lightly and ensure the arrest of the suspects as soon as possible.

“The city was shocked with what happened, especially the death of [Lake]. We want to be assured that our city police will go after those responsible in these shootings,” the mayor added.

The city government has also asked the public to be vigilant and to coordinate with the police in solving these crimes. (MT | CMO)
