Residents of Barangay Madaum, Tagum City, were left horrified after a 60-year-old man was found beheaded and disemboweled in a shocking crime allegedly committed by his 41-year-old son.
The victim’s internal organs were discovered in a pan inside the family’s home, while his heart was located in a nearby mangrove. Authorities are still searching for the victim’s head, which witnesses claim was thrown into a river by the suspect.
“The head hasn’t been recovered yet. Witnesses say it was thrown into the river, and the body was buried under mud using a shovel,” said P/Lt. Col. Wildemar Tiu, chief of the Tagum City Police Station.
Police also seized items believed to have been used in the gruesome act, including a scythe, a bolo, a hammer, and a shovel.
Initial reports revealed that the incident happened shortly after the victim reprimanded his son for not returning home. He reportedly fetched the suspect from a neighbor’s house before the attack.
The suspect, who was apprehended at the scene, is believed to suffer from a mental disorder. “At first, we thought it might be drug-related, but we later learned that the family has a history of mental health issues,” Tiu added.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the details of this horrific incident.
