CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To reinforce the functions of local government units (LGUs) and other agencies in stabilizing essential commodity prices, the Department of Trade and Industry in Region 10 (DTI-10) hosted the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) Summit last December 14.
Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist (CTIDS) Engr. Angelo Devero of DTI Misamis Oriental Consumer Protection Division (MisOr CPD) said that for the past years, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and other agencies allied with the council in pushing that LGUs must reconstitute and reactivate their LPCCs to ensure that the necessities and prime commodities are available to public consumers at reasonable prices.
“In October, the Cabadbaran City Price Coordinating Council in Agusan del Norte province had a benchmarking session with the Cagayan de Oro City Price Coordinating Council to learn from best practices already implemented and enforced in collaboration with the private sector. We hope that other local governments follow suit,” Devero said.
The summit participants deliberated on their responsibilities, including enforcing safety regulations for petroleum products, monitoring agricultural commodities, regulating the sale of medicines, establishing pharmacies, and distinguishing between genuine and counterfeit drugs emulable in their respective areas.
Devero emphasized that the summit aimed to discuss further concerns and challenges in preparing partner agencies to ensure price control of essential needs, especially during calamities and emergencies, in compliance with RA 7581, known as the Price Act. (DCC/PIA-10)
