MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL – The Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP) in northern Mindanao, through its I-REAP (Investments in Rural Enterprises and Agriculture and Fisheries Productivity) component, conducted an orientation on the PRDP scale-up for the proposed integrated coconut processing facility in the province.
DA Regional Executive Director and PRDP Northern Mindanao Project Director Jose Apollo Y. Pacamalan said the project supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s directive to develop the coconut industry as part of his administration’s legacy.
Pacamalan reiterated the President’s order to establish a coconut processing facility in every province in the region, following the April 22, 2025 inauguration of a similar facility in Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.
The orientation focused on the timely implementation of the Misamis Occidental facility. Pacamalan urged the local government to expedite the submission of requirements.
Governor Henry Oaminal’s plan to establish the facility is aligned with his Asenso development roadmap, which prioritizes investments in agriculture, infrastructure, and local enterprise.
The plant is expected to support post-harvest processing, increase farmer incomes, strengthen cooperatives, and expand access to local and export markets.
“The vision is clear—we don’t just want a building. We want a working system that turns our local produce into opportunity,” a team member said during the visit.
Coconut remains a key commodity in Misamis Occidental. The Philippine Coconut Authority estimates that Northern Mindanao has around 34 million coconut trees, reflecting the sector’s enterprise potential.
To support this, Pacamalan affirmed DA’s commitment to enhance provincial capacities through tools like drone mapping and plantation clustering.
