CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy has reiterated his “open door” policy towards other political leaders in the city as he was visited by a lawmaker of another “color” anew.

Uy welcomed into his office 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez Friday morning, Feb. 16, who dropped by while leading a historic trail walkthrough around the city with tourism executives.

During his visit, Rodriguez handed the mayor a copy of his book Historical Trails (Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro and Camiguin), published in 2023.

Accompanying Rodriguez in the courtesy visit was his sister Jocelyn, the city vice mayor.

Both the mayor and the congressman insinuated at forging a political alliance.

“Action speaks louder,” Rodriguez quipped before he, the mayor and vice mayor had their photo taken.

“Hinaut nga magpadayon kini, tuloy-tuloy na kini (I hope this will continue),” Uy said during his weekly radio program “Inyong Alagad, Mayor Klarex Uy” hosted by Dr. Ronnie Waniwan aired every Friday morning in three FM stations and various social media accounts.

In fact, the mayor said, it was Rodriguez who reached out to him.

“This is the first time that [Cong. Rodriguez] visited my office and he was the one who initiated this unity meeting,” Uy said in vernacular.

Uy emphasized that everyone is welcome and that his door is open for politicians of other colors or parties.

“I cannot bring myself to close the door since my only agenda is to serve the people. It is not the political parties who can help the people. If you are given a chance to serve the people, then you must serve the people,” the mayor said.

In the city and even in nearby Misamis Oriental, political figures are identified by their colors: Uy’s color is green; the Rodriguezes carry the orange banner, while the Emanos have adopted violet as their official hue.

Uy is affiliated with the National Unity Party; Rodriguez heads the Centrist Democratic Party; and Misamis Oriental 2nd District Rep. Yevgeny Vincente Emano is the chairman of the regional party PaDayon Pilipino, which counts a handful of the city’s barangay chairpersons as members.

It can be recalled that months after winning the mayoralty in 2022, Uy had met with Emano and Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter Unabia in what was seen as a cultivation of coordination and cooperation between the city and provincial governments. (JJ | MT)
