CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 10, through the Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP), supported six entrapment and rescue operations in Northern Mindanao during the first quarter of 2025. The operations, led by law enforcement, resulted in the rescue of 14 victims of Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).
Participating agencies included the Women and Children Protection Center–Mindanao Field Unit, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 10, Task Force Against OSAEC Iligan City, Department of Justice 10’s Regional Anti-Trafficking Task Force, the International Justice Mission, and local social welfare offices.
In Iligan City, four operations led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the rescue of nine minors, aged 3 to 16. The children were reportedly related to the suspects and were offered for online exploitation.
In Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental, a 16-year-old girl exploited by her brother was rescued and is now under DSWD-10 care.
In Plaridel, Misamis Occidental, DSWD-10 responded to reports involving a public school teacher allegedly exploiting students. In coordination with the Department of Education and the local government, four minors were rescued. A post-operation case conference was held with parents and school officials.
All victims received psychosocial support, hygiene kits, and temporary shelter in DSWD facilities, accredited agencies, or community-based settings. They continue to receive case management and related interventions.
Financial aid was also extended to families through RRPTP and the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
“DSWD-10 remains at the forefront of child protection efforts in the region. Our mandate is not only to assist in these operations but to ensure that rescued children are immediately placed in secure environments where they can begin to heal and rebuild their lives,” said Marchelle M. Peñonal, RRPTP focal person.
DSWD-10 continues to work with partners to deliver coordinated, victim-focused services and maintain its position against all forms of exploitation and trafficking.
