ORMOC CITY – Sixteen delegates of Northern Mindanao (Region 10) reaped recognitions, including six gold medals, from the week-long Department of Education’s National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) here that ended on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Although Region 10 was not among the Top 5 Performing Regions due to its lackluster performance in group events, yet six of its NSPC qualifiers became champions in individual events — which no other region has done, based on official results the NSPC Secretariat posted online.
The top podium spots in the newly-renamed category, Copy Editing (formerly copy reading) and Headline Writing (CEHW) in the secondary level (English and Filipino) went to Region 10 contestants: Ma. Kristine Abegail Arellano of Lala National High School, Lanao del Norte (English), and Wardy June Baloyos of Dr. Gerardo Sabal National Memorial High School, Claveria, Misamis Oriental (Filipino).
Also champions are Jhovance Alexcis Dajao in Editorial Writing (Filipino) from Misamis Occidental National High School, Oroquieta City; Keh Ramirez in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino) from Macabalan National High School, Cagayan de Oro; Johaiver Ampaso in News Writing (English) from Salvador Central Elementary School, Lanao del Norte; and Ezrah Margarette Obina in Feature Writing (English) from Tubod Central Elementary School, Lanao del Norte.
Other NSPC winners are Keith Jelyn Blair Cabanlit, 2nd place in CEHW (English) from East City Central School, Cagayan de Oro City; Kesha Kaye Buniel, 2nd place in Column Writing (Filipino) of City Central Elementary School, Cagayan de Oro; Czarinelle Mendoza, 2nd place in Feature Writing (Filipino) from Xavier University Grade School, Cagayan de Oro;
Neeka Ella Guillermo, 3rd place in Science and Technology Writing (English) of Gusa Regional Science High School, Cagayan de Oro; Lyca Bella Villanueva, 3rd place in Science and Technology Writing (English) from Alubijid Central Elementary School; Apple Montemayor, 4th place in News Writing (Filipino) from Tangub City Central Elementary School; and Nińa Jade Omega, 5th place in Photojournalism (Filipino) of Aloran Central Elementary School.
The 13 medals was an improvement over the 2025 NSPC Vigan when the region brought home 11 awards from individual contests, DepEd 10 records show.
Two other recognitions for Region 10 came from Radio Broadcasting and Scriptwriting competitions: Bulua Central Elementary School, Cagayan de Oro, 2nd place in Best in Scriptwriting (Filipino); and Rhammel Polido, 2nd place Best Presentor (Filipino) of Dr. Gerardo Sabal Memorial National School, Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
