CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Ever since its inception in 1976, the tertiary program leading to a degree in criminology that Cagayan de Oro College (COC) offers has consistently produced excellent professionals across all government agencies and private industries in the region.
Under the umbrella of the PHINMA Education Network (PEN), COC has been recognized as among the top criminology educational institutions in the country.
In fact, the reputation of the College is such that its current dean Dr. Gerry Cańo was elected president of the Asian Criminological Society which is composed of renown criminologists in the Asia-Pacific region.
Recently, PHINMA COC’s criminology offerings have likewise expanded beyond its Carmen flagship complex in Cagayan de Oro City.
Today, it maintains campuses in Barangay Puerto, Cagayan de Oro and in the neighboring cities of Iligan and Butuan.
Puerto criminology program head Dr. Harry Santiago Achas said that criminology graduates from PHINMA COC have become excellent professionals even as far as Butuan and Bukidnon province.
“It is in this regard that the school’s criminology program will fete these outstanding alumni–54 of them–during a grand homecoming on June 7 at the main campus’ quadrangle,” Achas said.
There will be honorees in the sub-fields of academe, law enforcement and public safety, government and private sectors.
As Achas would put it, PHINMA COC School of Criminology and Criminal Justice’s curriculum extends beyond what is required by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd).
Here, students learn about forensics, law, investigation and all other dimensions covered by the profession.
No wonder PHINMA COC is dubbed as the “Center of Excellence in Criminology Education” in this part of the country.
The alumni tribute is an opportunity to showcase the “living products” of the PHINMA COC’s criminology program.
