CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – About eight condominium projects, one water supply project and two drive-through coffee shops are scheduled to open here within the year, the Office of the Building Official (OBO) said on Friday (March 7).
During the Friday program “Ang Inyong Alagad: Mayor Klarex Uy,” OBO department manager Engr. Rosanna Rodriguez said the popular American coffee shop Starbucks will open two drive-through spots in the city with one outlet in Barangay Kauswagan and another outlet in the city’s uptown area.
“JE Hydro and Bio-Energy Corp will start operations next week. The eight condominium projects will be distributed in the city’s uptown and downtown areas and this will not only provide income to the city but employment. This will also entice more investors who will see that Cagayan de Oro City is business-friendly,” Rodriguez said.
This development came amid reports that Cagayan de Oro City ranked as the second largest economy in Mindanao based on data by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
As of November 2024, Cagayan de Oro City contributed 7.7 percent of Mindanao’s gross domestic product (GDP) behind only Davao City’s 14.8 percent.
The same PSA data also showed that the city under Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy’s leadership ranked second in per capita GDP among the top 10 highly urbanized cities (HUCs) located outside Metro Manila in 2023 with 343,936 points.
Cagayan de Oro City is topped only by Baguio City’s 420,016 points and followed in third place by Lapu-Lapu City with 313,039 points. (Stephen Capillas | Cagayan de Oro City Information Office)
