CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Senator Imee Marcos told barangay officials here Thursday that a bill extending their term limits is justified.

During her visit to the city and Misamis Oriental province, Senator Marcos said the four-year term proposed in Senate Bill 2816 would allow village officials to better serve the public.
“Barangay officials now have many things to do,” she said. “They are almost doing what the local governments are doing, but they have a limited workforce.”
The Senate approved SB 2816 on Jan. 14.
The lady senator said the Senate is awaiting a corresponding bill from the House of Representatives.
Senator Marcos said newly elected officials need time to adjust to government bureaucracy. Unlike local governments, barangay chairpersons and councilors are responsible for most tasks, she said.
Some barangay chairpersons also requested development project funding from the Senator Marcos.
She also met with Misamis Oriental Governor Peter Unabia in El Salvador City. (With a report from Ercel Maandig/PNA)
