TheMonitorMindanaoToday.com | SM Foundation Extends Assistance to Iligan City Residents Through Kalinga Packs Distribution
In response to the impact of Typhoon Basyang, SM Foundation, together with employee-volunteers from SM CDO Downtown and SM City CDO Uptown, swiftly activated its disaster relief initiative, Operation Tulong Express (OPTE), to provide immediate assistance to affected families in Iligan City.

On February 12, a total of 555 SM Kalinga Packs were distributed to families in severely affected communities. Each Kalinga Pack contains essential food items and basic necessities designed to support households as they begin their recovery process. These relief packs reflect SM’s continued commitment to extend kalinga (care) and compassion to communities during times of crisis.

The Kalinga Packs project forms part of SM Foundation’s broader disaster response efforts, ensuring that assistance reaches vulnerable communities promptly and efficiently. Through OPTE, the foundation mobilizes resources in collaboration with SM Supermalls and SM Markets, reinforcing a unified SM approach to social good and community resilience.

As Iligan City works toward recovery, SM Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to uplift lives and provide meaningful support where it is needed most—demonstrating that in moments of adversity, solidarity and service truly matter.

In a separate relief effort, SM Foundation also distributed over 130 Kalinga Packs to families affected by a fire in Barangay 24, Cagayan de Oro.

Employee-volunteers from SM Supermalls led the distribution, ensuring that food and other essential items were delivered promptly to the fire victims.
