CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – More than 300 residents of Sitio Pamalihi, Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City were the beneficiaries of the Rotary Club West Cagayan de Oro City medical/dental mission held at the Pamalihi Elementary school.

Aside from getting free medical consultations and dental services, the beneficiaries also received free medicines, legal services, ready to wear eye glasses, food packs, slippers and haircuts from the Rotarians. The project was chaired by Joseph Escobar with supervision of Assistant Governor Hipolito Balandra, director of service project A (community service).

The project was under the Rotary Club West Cagayan de Oro City under the leadership President Caroline Neri and president elect Daily Bagaloyos who were all present in full force to insure the success of the project.

Rotary West CdO also organized a blood letting activity through the Philippine Red Cross Misamis Oriental. Sitio Pamalihi also received books and reams of bond paper from the Rotarians.

The medical/dental mission is an annual activity of RC West CdO held in different under privileged communities in Cagayan de Oro City and neighboring provinces of Msamis Oriental and Bukidnon. The activity is in response to one of the seven areas of focus of the Rotary International specifically disease prevention, and treatment. The activity was funded by the Rotary Foundation through a district grant.

The project is on the 7th year of implementation. RC West CdO partnered with United Laboratories (UNILAB). Other sponsors of the project were the Pagatpat LGU, Congressman Lordan Suan, Rotary Club Uptown Cagayan de Oro 1, Zone Club Cagayan de Oro, Brotherhood of Christian Businessmen and Professionals (BCBP) West CdO, Rotaract Club of CdO, Philippine Red Cross, Misamis Oriental, The Grand Iponan Eagles Club, Karacho, Yamaha Motorcycle Club, Botoy’s Lichen Manor, and Pamalihi Elementary School.

Main organizer and committee chairman Joseph Escobar was ecstatic about the success of the activity. He stated that MDM 7 is still alive and strong. “For the last seven years, we have catered to almost 2,800 fellow Filipinos in CdO as web as outside CdO. The Manpower and resources we have committed to this endeavor is truly remarkable,’’ he said.

“The Service Above Self is the manifestation of how we are called for by the Rotary, as volunteers in this program,’’ he stressed.

Barangay Pagatpat chairman Achilles Babaran was also thankful for RC West CdO and the rest of the sponsors for choosing his barangay as the beneficiary of this years medical/dental mission. (Mari Gloria A. Tango Contributor: Past President, member Medical/Dental Mission Committee)
