The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has reappointed Dr. Gerry J. Cańo as first member of the Continuing Professional Development Council (CPDC) for Criminology.
Cańo, the dean of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice of PHINMA Education-Cagayan de Oro College in the past 16 years, will serve his fourth three-year term in the CPDC for Criminology until 2027. He got his first appointment from PRC to the CPDC in 2013.
Under Republic Act No. 10912, criminologists and other career professionals are required to renew their Professional Identification Card (PIC) every three years. PIC renewal is based on at least 45 credit units from CPDC-recognized events that guarantee participants fine-tuned skills, upgraded knowledge, and improved competence.
A criminology professor for three decades now, Cańo is the president of the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP). Recently, he was elected president of the Asian Criminology Society — a charmed circle of criminology experts.
He took his oath office on Monday, September 15, this year, that PRC Commissioner Conrdo T. Onglao administered. Lawyer Maria Liz H, Hernandez, director of regulation office witnessed the ceremony. [Uriel Quilinguing]
