The House of Representatives has officially approved House Bill 11108 on its third reading, declaring Cagayan de Oro City as the “Whitewater Rafting Capital of the Philippines.”
Authored by Misamis Oriental 2nd District Representative Yevgeny Vincente Emano, the bill aims to boost tourism and local economic growth by attracting adventure-seekers and creating more jobs and business opportunities.
“This city’s success is tied to the development of Misamis Oriental. Recognizing it as a premier destination will strengthen its role in the region’s progress,” Emano stated.
The legislation also integrates Cagayan de Oro into the Department of Tourism’s national promotion programs, further cementing its reputation as a top adventure tourism hub.
DOT-10 Director Mzarie Elaine Unchuan reported that whitewater rafting draws an average of 20,000 tourists annually. In 2023, Cagayan de Oro recorded a 12.72% growth in tourist arrivals, welcoming 775,024 visitors.
This declaration is expected to attract even more visitors, solidifying the city’s standing as a must-visit destination in the Philippines.
