The Department of Trade and Industry in Northern Mindanao (DTI 10), organizer of the 2026 Regional Consumer Month Quiz Bowl, needed 11 tiebreaker questions before announcing the Top 3 regional winners on Oct. 17, this year.
First, second, and third placers received cash prizes of P11,000, P9,000, and P7,000, respectively, while coaches got half of the amounts their mentees got, awarded during the closing program at the Lambago Hall of N Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.
Gilkiah Andrea A. Benedicto of Manolo Fortich National High School (MFNHS), Bukidnon topped the competition, besting 14 other junior high school students from five provincial-level quiz bowls, including second-place winner Anna Faye R. Guanzon of Ditucalan NHS, Iligan City in Lanao del Norte.
Benedicto and Guanzon answered six tiebreakers correctly but failed in four, thus both had 18 points after 10 tiebreak questions. Every question, just like in the Final Round, carries three points each.
Fortunately, the MFNHS student nailed the 11th question of multiple choice while her competitor faltered. It was on items outside the regulatory control of the DTI, thus the eventual champion ended the sudden-death round with 21 points.
Benedicto and Guanzon had the same scores after the Elimination Rounds that consisted of 20 questions that were answerable either True or False, Identification, or Multiple Choice. Both ended with 15 points. These questions were grouped into Easy (6), Intermediate (7), and Difficult (7) rounds with one, two, and three points for every correct answer, respectively.
Leo Jay M. Tagaylo of Montol NHS, Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental took the third spot, edging in the Final Round Princess Hannah Mae N. Yurong of Kabacsanan NHS, also of Iligan City, Lanao del Norte. They posted identical scores of 12 and tied for third when the Elimination Rounds ended.
The 11 other qualifiers to the DTI 10 Regional Consumers Month Quiz Bowl—all top three provincial winners—were (in alphabetically arranged): Marysid T. Barlisan (Lala NHS, Lanao del Norte), Khim Yeshy J. Cabanes (Talairon NHS, Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental), Kinette Maria P. Cagas (Gusa Regional Science HS, Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental), Nińo Miguel L. Limbas (Medina National Comprehensive HS, Misamis Oriental), Wencavi Wayne B. Nahial (Mambajao NHS, Camiguin), Charles Jacob F. Rafisura (Valencia NHS, Valencia, Bukidnon), Sophia Alta Gracia Reussora (Fatima College of Camiguin, Mambajao, Camiguin), Princess Daryn Zoe E. Samar (Casisang NHS, Malaybalay, Bukidnon), Kirsten Hazael L. Simogan (Gingoog City Comprehensive NHS, Misamis Oriental), Tish Joem C. Sobrevega (Ozamiz City NHS, Misamis Occidental), and Azyra Jhane T. Valente (Mambajao NHS, Camiguin).
