South District delegation stamped its class with an overwhelming 124-72-31 gold-silver-bronze medal harvest over nine other contingents in the three-day 2024 Cagayan de Oro City Division Athletic Meet that ended on Saturday, February 24.

The Secretariat, however, has yet to complete its tabulation before the final results would be officially released. Schools Division Superintendent Roy Angelo Gazo, the overall chairperson of the 2024 Division Athletic Meet, is set to issue a memorandum on this.

As of 4 pm on Sunday, February 25, those in the upper half of the tally were West 1 District with 53-56-62 while the third to fifth spots were tightly contested by West 2 (26-38-32), East 1 (25-24-24), and Central (21-13-8) districts.

Athletes from privately-ran educational institutions boosted South District’s hunt for top finishes in team and individual sports events, aside being the home of the Cagayan de Oro City National High School (CDOCNHS) junior and senior high school campuses that are situated in Barangay Nazareth.

South District amassed gold medals from Corpus Christie School’s football club in boys elementary, volleyball secondary girls and boys, and Kerwin Datiles in secondary level archery for boys. Saint Mary’s School’s Ashley Jessiah Toledo had a gold from taekwondo (Poomsae) elementary girls.

Secondary mixed taekwondo (Poomsae) played by Kate Magcosta-Lance Langos tandem of CDOCNHS and elementary girls doubles badminton tandem of South City Central School represented by Angel Saluta and Kendra Hasan also produced gold medals for South District.

West 1 District, on the other hand, reaped three of its gold medals from badminton matches through Juliane Mausisa in secondary singles girls, Eric Juan Emano in secondary singles boys, and Uzziah Garcia-Charles Lunday tandem in secondary mixed doubles.

Xavier University High School padded West 1 District gold-medal standing when its football secondary boys team emerged at the top while Guilliane Marinas ruled the archery competition in secondary individual girls.

As posted by CdeO Riser, the official Facebook account of the Cagayan de Oro Athletic Association (COAA), school districts at the lower half of the medal board were Southwest 1 (10-1-5), North 1 (9-2-12), East 2 (8-12-31), North 2 (3-12-31), and Southwest 2 (0-5-8).

Sports that athletes competed in were medal-rich events such as athletics, boxing, gymnastics, taekwondo, and swimming, aside from archery, arnis, badminton, billiard, chess, dancesport, penkak silat, sepak takraw, table tennis, wrestling, and wushu.
